520 |a The Ubaid collection consists of 33 documents, 30 in English and 3 translated from French (Margueron, Forest, and Breniquet). The works in this collection discuss the Ubaid tradition in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, and, in more general terms, Southern and Greater Mesopotamia from approximately 8000-6000 BP (6000-4000 BC). There is no single document in this collection that gives an over-all view of the entire Ubaid period. Ethnographic topics vary from one document to another in this collection, but when used in combination, they provide an adequate view of the period. Major ethnographic coverage focuses on ceramics and architecture. Ceramics are given major emphasis in Berman, Oates, Moon and Roaf, Forest, Vértesalji (1988), Nissen, Henrickson (1988), and Thuesen. Various aspects of Ubaid architecture are discussed in Safar, Roaf, Margueron, and Jasim (1988). Other ethnographic topics treated with some importance in this collection are physical anthropology in Coon and Downs, political structure in Stein and Patterson, burial practices in Safar and Hole, ritual behavior in Akkermans (1988), cultural change in Breniquet (1988), Akkermans, and Huot, comparative data in Jasim (1985), Henrickson (1988), and Thuesen, and the lithic industry in Miller and Rees-Miller.
