The original Spanish manuscript is lost. An Italian translation by G. B. Ramusio was published in his "Terzo volvme delle navigationi et viaggi ... Venetia, 1556," ℓ. 371-414. It was translated from the Italian into Spanish by Joaquin Garcia Icazbalceta, in 1849, and published as an appendix to his Spanish translation of Peru." It was republished in "Obras de ... Garcia Icazbalceta," Mexico, 1898, v. 8. The present English translation is from the Spanish text issued by Garcia Icazbalceta in 1849. cf. Translator's pref., p. 6.
